The Storytelling Project

The Storytelling Project is a Trust-wide training programme for all Year 4 teachers - working with Dr Lisa Stephenson from Leeds Beckett University and a selection of artist practitioners from ‘The Story Makers Company’.  The project focuses on building narratives to contextualise the factual knowledge being taught to children.

The aims of the project are:

  • To support delivery of effective arts-based learning
  • To equip teachers with a creative pedagogical tool kit to use in the primary classroom
  • To embed curriculum learning through the arts (drama)
  • To develop oracy and communication skills in children
  • To promote an effective partnership between schools and artist practitioners through co-planning, coaching and workshop sessions

Following on from this project, we will be cascading our approach throughout all of our academies to further highlight the transformative potential of story-based worldbuilding as a pedagogical approach to enhance social-emotional growth, language development, and critical thinking amongst pupils.

You can read all about our project from our report or from the latest Laurel Trust newsletter here.
