Exceed Learning Partnership brought pupils, families, staff, and community partners together last week for a powerful Social Justice Performance Evening held at Hall Cross Academy Upper School. The event showcased the creative outcomes of the Trust’s Social Justice Project, an initiative designed to help young people explore themes of fairness, equality, and opportunity through the arts.
The evening opened with a compelling speech from Beryce Nixon, CEO of Exceed Learning Partnership, who spoke passionately about the Trust’s commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also empathy, courage, and social responsibility. She emphasised the importance of giving young people the confidence to question, empathise, and act, reminding attendees that “justice begins with understanding, and understanding begins with listening.” Her words set a powerful tone for the evening, highlighting why this work sits at the heart of the Trust’s curriculum intent.
Hall Cross Academy’s Head Girl, Sophie Naylor, followed with an inspiring address in which she reflected on the meaning of social justice and the vital role young people play in shaping a fairer future. She spoke about her experience as a reading mentor and the importance of removing barriers to opportunity, reminding the audience that “everyone should be free to dream big and have a fair chance to achieve those dreams.”
The performances that followed were deeply moving and thought-provoking, showcasing the passion, creativity, and social awareness of pupils from across the Trust. Working alongside professional artists, students used dance, drama, spoken word, music, and visual art to explore the issues they care about most and to express their hopes for a more just world.
The event concluded with thanks to the staff and pupils whose commitment brought the project to life. The evening stood as a celebration of youth voice, creative expression, and the Trust’s long-standing commitment to social justice.
Exceed Learning Partnership looks forward to continuing this important work and further empowering young people to use their voices to influence positive change.
